1st off...I bought a metal tulip chair pictured above from my CL ad!   Has a little surface rust but structually sound piece!

Next up is a metal box fan from the 60's...a real solid fan!  A little cleaning up is all this bad boy will get!

I found these cute pot planters that hand on a wall.  These well get bead blasted and a new coat of paint...in very bright colors of course!

Finally, this International Harverster hub cab....it too will get a new look!

Not that bad for a couple of hours out and about on a beautiful Friday morning!

Funky Cool Lamp

Now this is a cool old lamp!  All metal!  The picture above is without the shade.  Below its on its side!

It comes apart real easy...will need new wiring. What color to paint it?  Wow...I know one thing....it will be BRIGHT!

Here is the shade and what holds in into place.  And below is a shot of the base...which is nice and solid!

What a GREAT find!  I love it...I can't wait to get started giving it a new look!

Home stretch and new beginning

We are starting the day on the home stretch of the vintage sitemaster lamp.  We have the lime green on the base...now its time to start the turquios.

While we waited for this to dry, we started bead blasting the hanging heart candle holder.   Now its just waiting its first coat of primer!

PAINT! PAINT! PAINT!

Dominion fan base.
Paint! Bright Color Paint! This is the fun part of restoration! After all the bead blasting and prepping for priming...there is nothing more enjoyable than putting on that first coat of PAINT! We are close to finishing our 60's Dominion fan and our Sitemaster desk lamp. Here are a few pictures of the painting we have done with both projects!

The white piece above it is the metal underneath the light.  The top of the lamp has been painted turquois.  There are parts of the lamp that will be lime green...like this piece below!

Both the fan and the sitemaster lamp should be finished Wednesday or Thursday.

COLOR!  BRIGHT COLORS!

Bringing items back from the past with a whole NEW colorful look!

Drafting Lamp Arrived!

Mr. Postman arrived today with the drafting lamp I purchased off of Etsy.

It is very intricate so the disassembly will be tricky! Now to decide what color to paint it?

Hmmm????

Here is my purchase for today.  It is a vintage Emerson Jr 10" Oscillator in working condition.  I purchaed the fan from a family south of Albuquerque who responded to my vintage fans wanted ad on Craigslist.  I will take more pictures and post both here and the website this evening.

We have arrived.  Our little hobby is growing into a little entrepreneurial enterprise on a very small scale.  I started my interest in restoring vintage items in the summer of 2009 with bicycles.  But along the way work and everyday life interferred with my hobby.  Then in June of 2011 I was laid off my job.  Now with plenty of time on my hands I started restoring vintage pressed steel toy trucks.  Now I have expanded to home items such as fans, desk lamps and clocks.  However, if its made of metal and its old, I want it to look new.

And today, Metal Maniacs Restorations is born!

What can you expect from our blog.  Just follow us as we "hunt" for new vintage pieces as well as our everyday work restoring the pieces we have in hand.

So visit out blog and watch as we find vintage pieces and restore them to their original look or take artistic license and give it a NEW look!

Enjoy the ride!
